EU to spend £600m on programme to make young people "feel more European".

The European Parliament has adopted a new "Youth in Action" programme for 2007-13, which has been allocated £600m in funding. According to the Sun, the UK taxpayer will contribute roughly £75m to the scheme. Jan Figel, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism said that the programme existed "for the defence of cultures, for a future of prosperity, understanding and peace. It fosters the idea of belonging to the European Union". (Euractiv, 27 October) The Commission has also launched a new EU culture website.

I rest my case...
